After spending days indoors, your little one may be missing their friends or family. Here are some ways to ensure your child stays socially connected under the lockdown.
1. Set Up Virtual Play dates
OBJECTIVE:
Give your child to opportunity to talk to their friends and maintain their connections with them.
DIRECTIONS:
What to do:
1. Get in touch with your child's friends' mothers or fathers to set up a time and date for a virtual play date. This will also be a great opportunity to support each other as you each try to navigate these challenging situations.
2. Discuss what your children may want to do. Perhaps they can give each other a tour of their room, or read a story together?
3. Decide what platform you will use. Skype, Zoom and even Whatsapp Video can work!
4. Explain what the virtual play date will look like for your child. Remember to tell them to be respectful of their friends when they are talking.
5. Have the play date!
2. Use the Caribu app
OBJECTIVE:
Download the Caribu app and use it to stories and do collaborative drawings with loved ones.
DIRECTIONS:
What to do:
1. Download the Caribu app and ask people who your child wants to connect with to download the app.
2. Use the app to call loved ones and have them read a story from your child or make a work of art together.
3. Play Family Games
OBJECTIVE:
Take some time each day to unwind as a family.
DIRECTIONS:
What to do:
1. Every day, ask all your household members to gather together and play games like charades, card games, board games and antakshari. Each day, allow a different person to choose the game!
